About Project

a Tale of 2 Futures

The Surefoot Effect from the UK, Dom Spain from Spain and Ziniu Kodas from Lithuania, have secured €180,000 worth of funding for an Erasmus+ 3-year long project with a focus on communicating solutions to energy issues and climate change at the local, European and national levels.

The project is divided into three parts. The first part aims to adapt the Carbon Conversations programme that has been successfully rolled-out in the UK over the last 7 years, encouraging participants to explore their values, emotions and identity as a way to reduce their carbon footprint. The programme will be adapted to the cultural contexts of Spain and Lithuania and new guides in both Spanish and Lithuanian will be produced.

The second part will focus on documenting projects and personal actions that are saving energy and carbon emissions around Europe and a few other industrialised countries such as the United States and Australia through writing, photography and other media. These projects will then be displayed in an online open interactive platform for anyone to access them.

The third part of the project will see the development of a programme to encourage individuals and organisations to replicate some of the stories available in the platform.

The Erasmus+ evaluators have praised the project proposal for having the ability to address the objectives and priorities set out in the programme guide "to design and implement effective provision for enhancing basic skills and key competencies and inclusive education, training and youth", as well as for targeting educators to develop "new pedagogical approaches to train people in climate change and energy use".

Tale of Two Futures

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union

Each of the three Intellectural Outputs (IO) of “A Tale of Two Futures” will have a space in the “resources” section. Information on each IO will be added as the project progresses.

Intellectual Outout 01: Carbon Conversations. Our partners are busy working on adapting the Carbon Conversations programme that has been successfully rolled-out in the UK for over 8 years to the economic, social and cultural contexts of Lithuania and Spain. Ziniu Kodas and Dom Spain will eventually produce a new guide in Lithuanian and Spanish respectively and will also adapt all other materials of the programme.

Intellectual Output 02: Project Platform. All three partners will investigate and document projects that are saving energy and CO2 around Europe and a few other industrialised countries such as the United States, Japan or New Zeland. Information about each project will be displayed on a 'project card' and all cards will appear on a world map, according to their location. Four main topics of projects will be targetted, those saving carbon emissions in the areas of: home energy, food, transport, and consumption and waste. These correspond to the four main topics of the Carbon Conversations programme. In addition, 50 people will be interviewed and asked what steps their take in their daily life to reduce their environmental impact. These stories will also be displayed as 'personal cards' in the platform.

Intellectual Output 03: Carbon Handprints Programme. At “A Tale of Two Futures” we want to portray a positive picture of what a carbon-neutral world would look like by looking at what others are doing to reduce their environmental impact. By selecting stories from people who are already reducing their impact, we would like to collaborate with more people and organisation willing to try things and start new projects. Through the Carbon Handprints programme we will help them replicate the persional actions and projects available in the Project Platform.
